There were 4 generations of OS/2 in the past:
Operating system = kernel + API + system utilities + system apps + installer + User Interface
Seems that OS/2, Fifth generation means:
- (as before) 32-bit kernel, modernized
- ACPI sub-system
- extended API (eCo Software runtime)
- updated user interface (dialogs, PNG icons) + XWorkPlace
- device drivers: SATA + CUPS for printing + modern video driver (Panorama)
eComStation 2.x - it's OS/2 of 5-th generation. ArcaOS (the release of 1-st version is planned for late third quarter or fourth quarter of 2016) - may achieve the 5-th generation too.
