I recently got a new main board (MSI H55M-E33 + Intel i3) and had
this same issue. One difference is even though I turned off AHCI
and can boot the hard drive, I still cannot boot from the CD - get
that same "Insert eComStation Installation CD-ROM and press any key."
message every time no matter how I change the boot menu parameters.
Maybe the DANIS version on the CD is not the most recent and my board
needs a newer one (which the hard drive has)...

I also never got SNAP to work - even with a supported card. It always
hangs at PMSHELL. I eventually restored to VGA (from the <alt>-F1 menu),
then installed Panorama. Panorama works, but is agonizingly slow. All
other hardware and ACPI seem to work fine.

There are some eCS bugtracker reports from about a year ago that have
these same problems and indicate problems with setting MTRR's on systems
with a 64 bit memory bus. A utility is supposed to be in the works to do
this, but I have not seen it yet.

David McKenna 2011-07-29 07:10:01 | I replaced the CDROM with a new one and now can boot from a CD or DVD. There is some evidence that this is an AHCI driver issue (see AHCI bugtracker).
The MTRR problems can be avoided if you stay with 2GB RAM.
The only reason this board doesn't get 'Very Good' is because it can only have 2GB RAM with eCS. |
