Warpstock Europe 2025

16th, 17 and 18th of May, Warpstock Europe will be organized in Amersfoort
in the Netherlands. We have a whole bunch of interesting presentations
lined up for you. You can no longer order access for the event.
You will however be able to remotely view the presentation via youtube.
Please check www.warpstock.eu for the URL to the youtube channel
during the event.
You will also be able to ask questions via IRC and Youtube chat. Some of the presentations:
- An update from Dmitriy Kuminov from BWW about the current and future developments surrounding the QT based browser project (Dooble).
- Lewis Rosenthal will be present in person at WSE and outlining what the future plans are for ArcaOS.
- More news about rpm.os2voice.org and some new packages you can easy install on ArcaOS.
- A presentation I will doing, however the text was written by the UEFI/QS_INIT developer Dixie. He will available to answer questions you have.
- Also we will do a quiz via a website you can join remotely.

Alex Taylor: Developing high-resolution capable software

A lot of work has been done recently to make Presentation Manager more
usable on very-high-resolution displays. In this presentation, Alex
Taylor discusses how to write or update OS/2 applications to take
advantage of these features.

Day 1: Впечатления
Eugene Gorbunoff быстро посмотрел трансляцию с конференции. Общие Впечатления:
- Вроде программа выглядит слабой и неинтересной.
Мало участников.
С другой стороны, проекты, которые обсуждаются,
вопросы, которые поднимаются - более высокого уровня, по сравнению с предыдущими годами.
Созданы более сложные драйверы. Короче, видно, что разработка ОС происходит.

Опять видим, что реклама конференции была слабой.
Все участники взаимосвязаны:
Разработчики едут, если там будет много пользователей.
Пользователи приедут, если будет много разработчиков.
- Мы видили, что европейцы собирались приехать , но ленятся. Откладывают.
Есть более важные дела?
Значит конференция недостаточно важная.
Осевик должен всё бросить и поехать.
Чтобы подготовить доклад, Разработчик OS/2 программы должен вложить десятки часов
в это дело.
Откуда у него будет мотивация?
С целью заработать, с целью поделиться Результатами своего труда.
Т.е. пользователи должны заранее объявлять, что едут.тогда разработчики
увидят, что есть интерес.
Какой смысл тратить 1-2 дня на конференцию?
Должна быть какая-то выгода от поездки.
Сейчас такое время, что поездка в другую страницу, в другой город - это сотни евро.
Тогда надо запомнить, что для участников конференции должны быть спец.предложения:
- Например, обновления ОС должны быть со скидкой 10% -20%
- Shareware программы также.
- Цель: Чтобы пользователи компенсировали ("отбили") затраты на поездку.

- Alex Taylor: ArcaOS in your language: what's really involved
Now that version 5.1.1 has been released in three new languages, Alex Taylor takes an in-depth look into what goes into creating a National Language Version of ArcaOS.
- Dmitry Zavalskov & Roderick Klein: The story behind supporting ArcaOS on UEFI
This tells the story of how we managed to get ArcaOS to boot and run on UEFI systems. The presentation is written by the developer, Dmitry Zavalskov, but will be presented by Roderick Klein as Dmitry's spoken English is not so good. Afterwards, questions may be asked on IRC to the developer.
- Gregg Young: Enhancing MMOS2
The presentation will include features on the new CWMM, available and updated audio support (MP3, MIDI, Flac, Ogg) and using MPlayer/SMPlayer for modern video formats.
- Keith Merrington: ArcaOS and a NAS
What is a NAS and how I use it with ArcaOS.
- Keith Merrington: EAMaster
An update on the latest version of this power-packed utility to read and manipulate extended attributes (EAs) on OS/2 systems including the latest tools.
- Keith Merrington: Quiz
A quiz to test your computer knowledge. Viewers can participate too using Kahoot; the link will be posted on the day of the event (this may or may not work with Firefox on ArcaOS but will work on your smartphone, tablet or modern browser). There is a limit of 50 participants for this quiz.
- Lewis Rosenthal: ArcaOS 5.1: what's next?
Topics may include: Updated Samba 4 client and server; enhanced Samba installation; updated VNC client and server; updated Lucide; installer refinements; more languages and improvements to existing NLVs.
Also included will be some installation tips for 5.1.1, reasons to upgrade from 5.0, and perhaps a glimpse of what we might see in 5.1.3.
- Rich Jerant: MMOS/2 development, a historic recount by a retired IBM developer.
Rich Jerant worked at IBM and worked as a software engineer on OS/2 multimedia components. He will describe what he worked on. Some of what he describes we still use today.
